Ricardo Fonseca Mota nasceu em Sintra em 1987, cresceu em Tábua e acabou de crescer em Coimbra.
O seu primeiro romance Fredo venceu o Prémio Literário Revelação Agustina Bessa-Luís em 2015, foi semifinalista do Oceanos – Prémio de Literatura em Língua Portuguesa em 2017, e está traduzido e publicado na Bulgária. Representou Portugal na 17ª edição do Festival do Primeiro Romance, em Budapeste.
As aves não têm céu é o seu segundo romance, vencedor do Prémio Ciranda 2021 e semifinalista do Prémio Oceanos 2021.
Formado pela Universidade de Coimbra, é autor, psicólogo clínico e promotor cultural.
