Ricardo de Saavedra é jornalista. Findo o serviço militar, radicou-se em Lourenço Marques, onde foi professor e integrou a redação do jornal Notícias, além de ter sido diretor de uma agência noticiosa. Depois viveu em Joanesburgo, onde colaborou nas rádios Suázi e RSA, dirigiu uma revista e um semanário. Regressado a Portugal em 1987, ingressou no Diário de Notícias, onde foi editor de economia, diretor-adjunto da Notícias Magazine, editor executivo e diretor de publicações especiais – cargo que também exerceu no Jornal de Notícias. Publicou livros de reportagem, romance e biografia. Na Quetzal, publicou O Puto e António Manuel Couto Viana – Memorial do Coração.
