Ricardo Carvalho

Ricardo Carvalho is an architect. He holds a degree in Architecture (FA UTL 1995) and a PhD in Architecture from the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon (IST UTL 2012). He founded the firm Ricardo Carvalho Arquitetos & Associados, based in Lisbon. He is a professor in the Department of Architecture at the Autonomous University of Lisbon and its current director. He has been a visiting professor at institutions such as... BTU CottbusGermany, UNAV University of Navarra, Pamplona, ​​Spain, Carleton UniversityCanada, the IUAV Venice, Italy, and the Escola da Cidade, São Paulo, Brazil. He has given lectures at various schools and institutions, such as the Mendrisio Academy of Architecture, the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, the EPFL Lausanne, and the Polytechnic University of Milan. He has published books such as The Social City (2014), Time is the raw material. (2017), Work Situation Process (2021) and All Directorates (2022). Writes regularly about architecture and was a columnist for the newspaper. Public between 1999 and 2016. He was nominated for the EU Mies van der Rohe Architecture Prize in 2015 and 2022, and for the Swiss Architectural Award in 2020. He was awarded the AICA Architecture Prize 2022.
