Rebecca Makkai é autora de vários contos e romances premiados. O seu romance Longe da Terra, publicado sob a chancela da Teorema, foi um sucesso entre a crítica, tendo sido considerado um dos dez melhores romances de estreia de 2011. O romance Os Otimistas cimentou o seu nome na moderna literatura americana e vai ser adaptado a televisão. Atualmente, Makkai é professora e vive a norte de Chicago com o marido e as duas filhas.
