É advogado e fundador da pioneira organização palestiniana de defesa dos direitos humanos Al-Haq, uma filial da Comissão Internacional de Juristas. Autor de vários livros aclamados, foi vencedor do Prémio Orwell em 2006 e finalista do National Book Award de 2023. Vive, atualmente, em Ramallah, na Cisjordânia.
