Rainer Maria Rilke

Rainer Maria Rilke was born in Prague in 1875. A precocious writer, he published his first book of poetry before the age of twenty, Life and Songs (1894). Among his most famous works are The Duino Elegies (1923), Letters to a Young Poet (1929, posthumous) and his only autobiographical novel, The Notes of Malte Laurids Brigge (1910). Rilke stood out as one of the most relevant authors in the German language, both in poetry and lyrical prose. He died in Valmont, Switzerland, victim of leukemia, in 1926.
