Artista desde sempre, Rachel foi investigadora e professora, tendo ensinado Fisiologia, Biologia e Matemática a alunos do ensino secundário e universitário. Vive em Providence, Rhode Island, com os três filhos e um cão adoravelmente feio chamado Harvey.
