Pintomeira
Pintomeira was born in Deocriste, Viana do Castelo (1946). Pintomeira is a visual artist and essayist. In 1965, he dropped out of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (FBAUP), now the Faculty of Architecture (FAUP), and abandoned his studies in that area, opting for a career in Visual Arts (Painting). Between 1967 and 1972, he lived in Lisbon and associated with the artists Mário Cezariny, Cruzeiro Seixas and Raul Perez, the writers Luiz Pacheco and Natália Correia, and others from the Portuguese Surrealist movement. At the end of 1972, he left for Paris. After a short stay in the French capital, he moved to Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, where he resided for the next 27 years. Between 1977 and 1980, Pintomeira attended the CREA Institute. Amsterdam (Cultureel Studentencentrum at Universiteit in Amsterdam), where he studied Painting. In 1999, he left Amsterdam and returned to Portugal, continuing his creative work. His work encompasses 18 different themes, in multiple techniques and disciplines, and is published in several catalogs and books. As an essayist, Pintomeira has published writings related to his field of expertise, as well as books. Art in the Interwar Period 1918-1939, A World Divided and Lisbon – City of Tragedies.
