Pier Vittorio Tondelli nasceu em Correggio em1955 e morreu em1991. Um dos mais talentosos escritores italianos da sua geração, estreou-se em1980 com Altrilibertini, que narrava a euforia e o desespero de uma geração inteira. Após a sua experiência militar, publicou outros romances, entre os quais Pao Pao e Rimini. Foi o curador de três volumes antológicos do projeto «Under25» dedicado às novas gerações de escritores. Quartos Separados, publicado em1989, é uma obra-prima da literatura italiana e um retrato comovente do amor, da tristeza e do quotidiano de um homem gay na Europa dos anos1980.
