Philippe Delerm nasceu a 27 de Novembro de 1950 em Auvers-sur-Oise, França, filho de professores primários. Concluídos os seus estudos de Letras, começou a leccionar na Normandia, onde vive desde os anos setenta. Publicou o seu primeiro livro em 1983. Recebeu o Prix Alain-Fournier, em 1990, com o livro Autumn, o Prix Grandgousier, em 1997, para o livro La première gorgée de bière et autres plaisirs, e ainda o Prix de Libraires e o Prix National des Bibliothécaires para o livro Sundborn ou les jours de lumière.
