Pema Chödrön

Pema Chödrön is a Buddhist nun who was born in New York City in 1936.
She graduated from the University of California and was for many years an elementary school teacher.
After a difficult period in his life, Pema embraced Buddhism.
In 1972, he met Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, who has become his master ever since.
Ordained a nun in 1981, Pema has been director of Gambo Abbey, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery for Western monks and nuns in Canada, since 1984.
He has written several books, including Welcomingthe Unwelcome, Start Where You Are, The Wisdom of No Escape, When Everything Falls Apart, The Places That Scare Us, among others.
Mother of two and grandmother of three grandchildren, Pema divides her time between classes she teaches in the United States and Canada.
