Pedro Simas é investigador científico, professor universitário e virologista. Trabalha na Universidade Católica Portuguesa, na Faculdade de Medicina e no Instituto de Medicina Molecular da Universidade de Lisboa, onde lidera o grupo de investigação que tem por objetivo a compreensão dos mecanismos moleculares usados por vírus herpes envolvidos na modulação do funcionamento celular, e onde é também o diretor científico do Biotério, a unidade dos animais usados em laboratório. Tem vários artigos publicados sobre vírus herpes, que podem existir em 90% da população mundial.
