Pedro Almodóvar
Pedro Almodóvar was born in Calzada de Calatrava, Spain, in 1949. An iconic figure in contemporary Western culture, he is the Spanish film director, screenwriter, and producer with the greatest global reach in recent decades. He has received all the major international film awards – two Oscars, two Golden Globes, a Golden Lion, two awards at the Cannes Film Festival, and six Goyas. In Spain, he was awarded the National Cinematography Prize (1990), the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts (1998), and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts (2006). He also received honorary doctorates from the universities of Castilla-La Mancha (1999), Harvard (2009), and Oxford (2016). In 1981, he published the novel... Fire in the bowels and, ten years later, the volume of chronicles Patty Diphusa.
