Orchestra Baobab

Orchestra Baobab é uma orquestra senegalesa formada em 1970 em Dakar como banda residente do Baobab Club. Fundida por veteranos do Star Band, liderada por Balla Sidibé e Issa Cissoko, soube misturar a sonoridade cubana do son e do cha-cha-chá com os ritmos wolof e mande, criando um groove afro-latino único.

Entre 1975 e 1978 gravaram clássicos subtis, mas foi em 2001, ao reunirem-se a convite da World Circuit, que alcançaram renome internacional com Specialist in All Styles (2002) — disco elogiado pela fusão perfeita de guitarras espanholas, metais elegantes e percussões africanas — e seguiram-se Made in Dakar (2007) e Tribute to Ndiouga Dieng (2017).

A sua música atravessa gerações e fronteiras, tendo tocado em grandes festivais na Europa, África e América. A banda permanece um exemplo vivo de como o encontro de culturas cria novos universos sonoros.
