Olivier Rolin nasceu em França, a 17 de maio de 1947, e passou parte da sua infância em África. Deu-se a conhecer com o romance Phénomène futur (1983), sendo hoje um dos nomes mais respeitados do panorama literário francês. Em Portugal estão traduzidos, entre outros, os seus romances O bar da ressaca, A invenção do mundo, Porto-Sudão (Prémio Femina 1994), O cerco de Cartum, Tigre de papel (Prémio France Culture 2003 e finalista do Prémio Goncourt), Suite no Hotel Crystal, Um caçador de leões (finalista dos Prémios Goncourt e Renaudot 2008), O meteorologista ou Veracruz. Em 2010 foi distinguido pela Academia Francesa com o Grande Prémio de Literatura Paul-Morand.
