Foi deputada pelo Partido Comunista Português, pelo qual foi eleita Presidente da Assembleia Municipal de Setúbal em 2001 e em 2005. Fez a sua última intervenção no Parlamento no dia 13 de abril de 2007. É ainda membro do Comité Central do Partido Comunista Português, da Direção de Organização Regional de Setúbal do PCP e do Movimento Democrático de Mulheres (MDM). Foi agraciada pelo Presidente da República com a Medalha de Grande Oficial da Ordem do Infante D. Henrique. A par da vida política, já trabalhou no teatro, tendo representado variados autores como Gil Vicente, Edward Albee ou Moliére, entre outros.
