Monique Vallance obteve o grau de mestre em 2006 e terminou o doutoramento em 2011 em História de Portugal pela Universidade da Califórnia, em Santa Barbara. A sua investigação de doutoramento incidiu sobre D. Luísa de Gusmão e os papéis de género na corte durante o século xvii. Leciona História na University of the Pacific, na Califórnia.
Tem participado como colaboradora e como editora-assistente em várias enciclopédias. Para além da sua atividade académica, está muito ligada à comunidade luso-americana da Califórnia, orgulhando-se do seu legado português.
