Professor catedrático na Escola de Psicologia da Universidade do Minho. Autor de diversos livros no domínio da intervenção narrativa e investigador dos processos narrativos envolvidos na mudança psicoterapêutica, tendo também publicado trabalhos em revistas e livros internacionais. É diretor adjunto do Centro de Investigação em Psicologia e Diretor do Programa de doutoramento em Psicologia Aplicada da Universidade do Minho. É ainda editor associado da Psychotherapy Research, vice-presidente da International Society for Dialogical Science e membro honorário da Sociedade Portuguesa de Psicoterapias Construtivistas.
