Nascida em 1970, Michiko Aoyama formou-se em jornalismo. Durante dois anos trabalhou como correspondente estrangeira em Sydney (Austrália). Depois de regressar ao Japão, foi editora de uma revista até se dedicar a tempo inteiro à escrita. O seu romance de estreia, Chocolate Quente às Quintas-Feiras, ganhou o primeiro Prémio Miyazakimoto; seguiu-se O Que Procuras Está na Biblioteca, que foi finalista do Prémio dos Livreiros Japoneses e traduzido em mais de vinte países.
