Michel Houellebecq é um autor francês nascido na ilha de Reunião em 1956.
Escreveu e publicou vários romances e obras de poesia, e está publicado em mais de quarenta países. Entre os seus romances estão publicados em Portugal, na Alfaguara: Extensão do domínio da luta (2016), Lanzarote (2017), Partículas elementares (2021), Plataforma (2021), A possibilidade de uma ilha (2018), O mapa e o território (2011), Submissão (2015) e Serotonina (2019). Venceu, entre outros, o Prémio Novembre, em 1998, e o Prémio Impac Dublin, em 2002.
Com A possibilidade de uma ilha venceu o Prémio Interallié e foi finalista do Prémio Goncourt.
O prestigiado Prémio Goncourt foi-lhe atribuído em 2010 pelo romance O mapa e o território.
Em 2019 foi-lhe atribuída a Legião de Honra.
