Michael Löwy was born in São Paulo, May 6, 1938. He is a Brazilian Marxist thinker based in France, where he works as a research director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. He is a prominent scholar of Marxism, with research focusing on the works of Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, Rosa Luxemburg, Georg Lukács, Lucien Goldmann, and Walter Benjamin.
