Michael Crichton é ainda um dos mais populares escritores do mundo, conhecido principalmente pelo fenómeno global Parque Jurássico. Os seus livros, traduzidos para quarenta línguas e adaptados a quinze filmes, venderam mais de 220 milhões de exemplares por todo o mundo. Escreveu uma série de bestsellers globais, como Mundo Perdido, Parque Jurássico, The Andromeda Strain, Congo, Esfera, Sol Nascente, Revelação: Disclosure, Airframe e The Great Train Robbery.
A sua influência e a sua criatividade expandiram-se para lá dos livros — foi o criador da marcante série de televisão Serviço de Urgências, que teve quinze temporadas, ganhou vinte e três prémios Emmy e recebeu 124 nomeações para os mesmos.
