Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941), escritor e jornalista francês, era filho de um armador naval. Teve a possibilidade de estudar em França, na Alemanha e em Itália, mas interrompeu o curso de Direito com a intenção de se tornar escritor. Trabalhou durante algum tempo na empresa da família, até conseguir estabelecer-se como repórter criminal em jornais como o L'Écho de Paris. Embora seja autor de mais de cinquenta títulos, Leblanc ficará para sempre imortalizado pela criação do fantástico Arsène Lupin, o cavalheiro ladrão das aventuras mais lidas do seu tempo.
