Matt Killeen nasceu em Birmingham, Reino Unido, numa época em que ainda se usavam calças à boca de sino e tudo era castanho. Trabalhou como jornalista e copywriter até concretizar um sonho de infância: colaborar com o Grupo LEGO®.
Anos depois, decidiu regressar às palavras, tornando-se escritor a tempo inteiro. Embora seja um urbanita devoto, mudou-se com a família para uma casa no campo cheia de instrumentos musicais e, claro, brinquedos muito famosos.
Órfã Monstro Espia é o seu livro de estreia, graças ao qual recebeu uma nomeação para o Prémio COSTA e o maior elogio de sempre: ser apelidado de Graham Greene da literatura para jovens adultos.
