Mary Midgley (1919-2018) foi professora de Filosofia na Universidade de Newcastle entre 1962 e 1980. Figura cimeira da filosofia da moral do século XX, escreveu longamente sobre a natureza humana, a ciência, a ética, os animais e o ambiente. Entre as suas obras contam-se Beast and Man, Heart and Mind, Animals and Why They Matter, Are You an Illusion? e Wickedness.
