Having grown up in a turbulent neighborhood of Detroit (USA), Marshall B. Rosenberg (1934-2015) was interested in new forms of communication to create peaceful alternatives for dialogue that would mitigate the climate of violence with which he lived. Nonviolent Communication results from his academic training in Clinical Psychology and personal experiences as a civil rights activist, volunteer in shelters and family therapist.
