Marjane Satrapi
Marjane Satrapi was born in Rasht, Iran, in 1969, and currently lives in Paris. She studied at the French lycée in Tehran, where she spent her childhood. The great-granddaughter of an emperor of the country, she received an education that combined the traditions of Persian culture with Western and leftist values. At fourteen, she left for Austria, and later returned to Iran to study fine arts. Established in France as an author and illustrator, Marjane achieved worldwide fame with Persepolis, a work that won some of the most prestigious awards in this literary genre. Marjane's illustrations are published in magazines and newspapers around the world, including The New Yorker and The New York Times.
