Marco Ferrari nasceu em La Spezia, Itália, em 1952. Jornalista e escritor, é autor de vários romances e ensaios. Estreou-se na ficção com Tirreno, em 1988, a que se seguiram I sogni di Tristan, Cuore Atlantico, Un tango per il duce, entre outros. Na ensaística, publicou Mare Verticale e Rosalia Montmasson, l’angelo dei mille. Da sua afeição à cultura de língua portuguesa, nasceram os romances Ti ricordi Glauber, Le nuvole di Timor e Alla rivoluzione sulla Due Cavalli. Este último daria origem ao filme homónimo de Maurizio Sciarra que seria distinguido com o Leopardo de Ouro na edição de 2001 do Festival de Locarno.
