Manuel João Ramos nasceu em Lisboa, em 1960. Professor de antropologia no ISCTE - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa desde 1984, tem viajado pela Europa e por África, como etnógrafo e desenhador. Publicou, entre outros livros, Histórias Etíopes: Diário de Viagem (Assírio & Alvim, 2000).
