Léo Malet nasceu em 7 de março de 1909 em Montpellier. Realizou vários trabalhos, experimentou a difícil arte de compositor antes de fundar um cabaré. Continuou a trabalhar em campos tão diversos quanto improváveis, apaixonou se cada vez mais pelo surrealismo e conheceu André Breton. A pedido de um amigo, escreveu o seu primeiro romance policial em 1941, criando a série Johnny Metal. Nestor Burma entrou em cena em 1943, e logo se tornou parte da famosa série Novos Mistérios de Paris. Léo Malet faleceu em 1996, deixando para a posteridade uma obra à parte, entre o surrealismo e o thriller.
