Luís Portela

Luís Portela is a doctor, having worked as a doctor for three years and taught psychophysiology at the University of Porto for six years.
From 1979 to 2021 he chaired the family company – Bial – which became an innovation pharmaceutical company present in about 60 countries. He was also president of the Health Cluster Portugal and of the General Council of the University of Porto, vice-president of the Serralves Foundation and member of the Board of Cotec.
In 1994 he created, with Bial and the Council of Rectors of Portuguese Universities, the Bial Foundation – which he chairs – to encourage human-centred research. The Foundation has created a scholarship system for scientific research that has already supported about 1900 researchers from 31 countries, in the areas of psychophysiology and parapsychology. It also awards several prizes in the field of health sciences.
He has published ten books, including Serenely, The Pleasure of Being, Spiritual Being, From Science to Love , and The Science of Spirit – Parapsychology, Enlightenment and Evolution (in the USA).
Among other distinctions, he has three State decorations and four Honoris Causa doctorates. He received the Louisiana State University Neuroscience Award and was elected an Honorary Member of the Parapsychological Association of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
