Luís Barriga nasceu em 1961 em Estoi, Faro. Foi militar de Cavalaria, jornalista, fotógrafo amador e técnico de instalações elétricas. Mestre em Psicologia Perinatal, fez investigação, foi docente universitário e atualmente exerce como psicólogo clínico e da saúde. É autor de vários livros que têm Estoi como local principal das narrativas e faz desta aldeia o centro da sua vivência social.
