Luís Barreira

Luís Barreira is a Full Professor of Mathematics at Instituto Superior Técnico, where he graduated in Applied Mathematics and Computing in 1991. He received his PhD in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University, USA, in 1996. He was awarded the Gulbenkian Science Prize in 2007, the UTL/Santander Totta Scientific Prize in Mathematics in 2007, and the international Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer Prize in 2008 (awarded by the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, Barcelona). He is the author of the books Lyapunov Exponents and Smooth Ergodic Theory (American Mathematical Society, 2002) and Nonuniform Hyperbolicity (Cambridge University Press, 2007), both with Yakov Pesin, as well as Stability of Nonautonomous Differential Equations (Springer, 2008), with Claudia Valls, and Dimension and Recurrence in Hyperbolic Dynamics (Birkhäuser, 2008, for which he received the Ferran Sunyer i Balaguer prize). He is also the author of about one hundred research papers in mathematics, including several surveys, predominantly on differential equations, dynamical systems, ergodic theory, and multifractal analysis.
