Luís Amorim de Sousa nasceu em 1937 na cidade colonial de Nova Lisboa, Angola, de onde foi levado para Lisboa no primeiro ano de vida. Permaneceu em Lisboa até o começo da adolescência. De lá partiu para Lourenço Marques, Moçambique, onde publicou os seus primeiros poemas e se manteve até atingir a maioridade. Desde então viveu grande parte da sua vida no estrangeiro. Trabalhou e dirigiu o serviço noticioso português da BBC, em Londres, até 1976. Partiu seguidamente para Washington, onde desempenhou o cargo de Conselheiro de Imprensa junto da Embaixada de Portugal. Nessas funções residiu posteriormente em Brasília, e em Londres uma vez mais, até atingir a reforma. Viveu seguidamente em Portugal de onde partiu para Oxford, onde reside. Além de vários livros de memórias, reuniu a sua poesia em cinco coletâneas: Ultramarino e O Verbo Trafalgar (IN/CM), Bellini e Pablo Também (Assírio & Alvim), Mera Distância (Artefacto) e Este Incómodo Meu (húmus).
