Lourenço Cazarré
The unprecedented Memoirs of Simeon Good Death and Other Poetic Tales, by Brazilian writer Lourenço Cazarré, is the big winner of the 5th edition of the Imprensa Nacional/Ferreira de Castro Prize, awarded in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Born in 1953 in the Brazilian city of Pelotas, in Rio Grande do Sul, Lourenço Cazarré is descended from Portuguese people from Cinfães, a town in the district of Viseu. His grandparents emigrated to the other side of the Atlantic at the turn of the 20th century. Author of nearly fifty books, including novels, novellas and short stories, his work has been distinguished in Brazil with several awards. He has about forty books published, most of them aimed at children and young adults.
