Lightnin' Hopkins

Lightnin' Hopkins, born Sam John Hopkins on March 15, 1912 in Centerville, Texas, and died on January 30, 1982 in Houston, Texas, was one of the most prominent and influential blues musicians of the twentieth century. especially in the subgenre known as Texas blues.

Hopkins began playing guitar at a young age, inspired by the blues musicians of his region, including his cousin, the also legendary bluesman Texas Alexander. He gained notoriety for his ability to improvise lyrics and for his ability to play both acoustic and electric guitar with a technique that blended melodic guitar riffs with rhythmic beats. His music often reflected themes of hardship, love, and the daily lives of African Americans in the southern United States.

Over the course of his career, which spanned more than five decades, Lightnin' Hopkins recorded hundreds of songs, many of which have become blues classics. Among his best-known songs are "Mojo Hand," "Trouble in Mind," and "Baby, Please Don't Go."
