Leão XIV (n. 1955) é o 267.º papa da Igreja Católica, eleito a 8 de maio deste ano. Robert Prevost (nome de batismo) nasceu em Chicago e ingressou em 1977 na Ordem de Santo Agostinho, depois de ter cursado Matemática. Pouco depois de se doutorar em Direito Canónico pelo Angelicum, em Roma, partiu como missionário para o Peru, onde permaneceu durante uma década. Em 2001 foi eleito prior-geral da sua Ordem, cargo que ocupou até 2013. Regressou depois ao Peru, sendo nomeado bispo de Chiclayo em 2015. Em 2023 foi chamado a Roma para servir como prefeito do Dicastério para os Bispos; no mesmo ano, foi feito cardeal pelo Papa Francisco, ao qual agora sucede na Sé de Pedro.
