Layla Martínez (Madrid, 1987) estudou Ciência Política e codirige a editora espanhola Levanta Fuego. É autora dos ensaios Gestación sub-rogada (2019), sobre a espinhosa questão das barrigas de aluguer, e Utopía no es una isla (2020), acerca do poder das utopias na construção de um futuro comum. Organizou ciclos de cinema e debate sobre a história das mulheres e dos movimentos sociais e o papel dos monstros na cultura ocidental. Para escrever CARUNCHO, o seu primeiro romance, inspirou-se em crenças populares e na história da família materna, oriunda da região de Cuenca, onde a repressão franquista foi particularmente dura.
