Laurent Petitmangin nasceu em 1965, na região da Lorena, no seio de uma família de trabalhadores ferroviários. Passou os primeiros 20 anos da sua vida em Metz, tendo deixado a cidade natal para prosseguir os estudos superiores em Lyon. Seria depois admitido na Air France, empresa para a qual trabalha até hoje. Leitor compulsivo, escreve há mais de uma década. Quando a Noite Cai – «obra de uma sensibilidade e de um primor pouco habituais», Le Monde – é o seu primeiro romance.
