Os seus romances receberam dezenas de prémios e críticas de várias publicações literárias, como Kirkus Reviews, The New York Journal of Books, Library Journal e Booklist. É vencedora de três prémios RITA, além de ter sido por cinco vezes finalista do Prémio Kirkus para Melhor Livro de Ficção.
Adora cães e orgulha-se de já ter resgatado alguns animais das ruas. Atualmente, vive no Connecticut com o marido e os dois filhos.
