Heinz Konsalik é o pseudónimo de Heinz Günther. Nascido em 1921 na Alemanha, passou a usar o apelido de solteira da mãe, Konsalik, para assinar os seus livros.
Foi correspondente de guerra durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial, o que lhe deu material abundante para as suas obras de ficção. Usa muitas vezes temas da guerra, da medicina e de situações extremas nas suas narrativas, sempre de uma forma puramente humana, evitando tomar partido política ou ideologicamente. O que interessa ao autor são os dramas emocionais e psicológicos que afetam as suas personagens.
Morreu em 1999, deixando uma obra de mais de 150 livros escritos e cerca de 85 milhões de exemplares vendidos.
