Kathryn Smith cresceu na zona rural de Nova Escócia, e desde nova que ouvia a sua mãe contar-lhe muitas histórias e encorajava-a a escrever a sua. Assim o fez. O seu primeiro livro, 372 páginas escritas à mão, era sobre uma banda de rock como os Duran Duran, mas já se tinha apaixonado pelos romances históricos, que lia roubando à sua irmã. Anos depois, escreveu Passion Elusive, que vendeu em 1999 e foi publicado em 2001. Desde então escreveu mais de 20 livros, muitos dos quais chegaram a vários tops de best sellers, como o da USA Today, e foram traduzidos em mais de meia dúzia de línguas. O seu objetivo é escrever até morrer.
