Katherine Vaz, filha de pai açoriano e mãe irlandesa, é uma autora premiada, detentora de bolsas da Universidade de Harvard, do Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study e do National Endowment for the Arts, bem como da Harman Fellowship. É uma voz ativa na divulgação da cultura lusa por todo o mundo. Mariana foi escolhido pela Biblioteca do Congresso como um dos 30 melhores Livros Internacionais, tendo sido traduzido para seis idiomas. Atualmente, a escritora vive em Nova Iorque com o marido, Christopher Cerf.
