Kate Foster trabalhou como jornalista por mais de vinte anos antes de se tornar escritora. Ao crescer em Edimburgo, ficou fascinada pela sua história, que muitas vezes usa como inspiração para os seus livros. Além de A Donzela – vencedor do Bloody Scotland Crime Debut of The Year e candidato ao Women’s Prize for Fiction 2024 –, publicou ainda The King’s Witches e The Mourning Necklace. Atualmente, vive em Edimburgo com os dois filhos.
