Karl Raimund Popper (1902-1994) nasceu em Viena e estudou na Universidade de Viena, tendo terminado o doutoramento em Filosofia no ano de 1928.
Aquando da Segunda Guerra Mundial emigrou para a Nova Zelândia, tornando-se professor na Universidade de Canterbury.
A partir de 1946, convidado pela London School of Economics, aí leciona até 1969, data da sua jubilação. A vasta obra desenvolvida no campo da Filosofia da ciência e do conhecimento tornou Popper um dos mais prestigiados e influentes pensadores do século XX.
