Filósofo, sociólogo, jornalista e professor universitário, Jürgen Habermas, nascido em Düsseldorf (Alemanha) em 1939 é um dos mais importantes pensadores da atualidade. Em tempos assistente de Adorno na Universidade de Frankfurt, e ocupante da cátedra de Horkheimer, é atualmente considerado o legítimo herdeiro destes seus mestres, em especial na valorização do papel da razão e da opinião pública - fonte comunicacional da razão - e no esboço de uma teoria comunicativa que aponta para a reconstrução da moralidade e da legitimação do direito.
