Juliet Marillier nasceu na Nova Zelândia, em Dunedin, uma cidade com fortes raízes na tradição escocesa. Licenciou-se com distinção em Linguística e Música, na Universidade de Otago, e tem tido uma carreira variada, que inclui o ensino, a interpretação musical e o trabalho em agências governamentais. Atualmente, Juliet vive numa casa de campo centenária, perto do rio, em Perth, na Austrália, onde escreve a tempo inteiro. É membro da ordem druídica OBOD e cuidadora de um grupo de resgate de animais. Juliet Marillier é uma autora internacionalmente reconhecida e os seus romances já conquistaram vários prémios. Tem quatro filhos e sete netos.
