Filho de pais argentinos, Julián Fuks nasceu em São Paulo em 1981. Publicou o primeiro livro, Fragmentos de Alberto, Ulisses, Carolina e eu, em 2004, e com ele ganhou o Prémio Nascente da Universidade de São Paulo.
Em 2007 e 2012 foi finalista do Prémio Jabuti e do Prémio Portugal Telecom com os livros Histórias de literatura e cegueira e Procura do romance, respectivamente. Em 2012 foi considerado pela revista Granta um dos melhores jovens escritores brasileiros.

O romance A resistência (Companhia das Letras, 2016) valeu-lhe o Prémio Literário José Saramago e o Prémio Jabuti de Melhor Livro. Seguiu-se-lhe A ocupação, publicado no Brasil em 2019 e agora em edição portuguesa da Companhia das Letras Portugal.
