Julián Ayesta nasceu em Gijón, nas Astúrias, em 1919. Licenciou-se em Direito e depois em Filosofia e Letras, e foi diplomata de carreira. Autor de várias peças de teatro, Helena ou o Mar do Verão é o seu único título de ficção. Morreu em 1996.
