Judith Kerr

Judith Kerr was born in Berlin in 1923. Her father, a famous German writer and fierce critic of the Nazi regime, feared reprisals should Hitler come to power. So they fled Germany when Judith was only nine years old. Judith, her parents, and her brother crossed Switzerland and France and, in 1936, arrived in England. It was there that the author wrote this semi-autobiographical story, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, first published in 1971, and considered a classic of children's literature.

In 1945, Judith won a scholarship to the Central School of Arts, and since then she has worked as an artist, television writer, and, for the last thirty years, as an author and illustrator of children's books.
